“Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” is an action-adventure video game set in J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle-earth. It was developed by Monolith Productions, which also created the “F.E.A.R.” and “Condemned” video game series. It is available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360 PS4 and PS3. It is rated M for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

A ranger named Talion and his family are slain by soldiers of Sauron, the main antagonist in “The Lord of the Rings.” Talion is revived by an unknown force in Mordor, where men are enslaved by Sauron’s army of Uruks, an orc-like people. Talion immediately begins waging war against this army to find the reason he has been banished from death.

Talion’s revival ties him to the spirit of a wise elf who has forgotten his identity. The elf’s powers of stealth and archery add to Talion’s already formidable swordsmanship, making him an incredibly powerful character whose strength grows as the game progresses.

The PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have a Nemesis system, which tracks your battles with Sauron’s Uruk officers. Most officers are generated with random traits, and they will individually develop attitudes toward the gamer based on battles against them. Different players will see a different army develop based on their actions.
