After 13 years on High Street, Mad Mex officially closed its doors on Monday, as first reported by the Columbus Dispatch.

Originally Gateway’s first restaurant, Mad Mex is known for their “fresh Cal-Mex” and popular “Big Booty ‘Ritas,” which was one of the few spots on campus to get affordable margaritas late at night.

When it signed on to lease space in Gateway back in 2005, the Pittsburgh-based concept was the first Mad Mex location outside of Pennsylvania. No official statement was given as to why the restaurant shut down.

Mad Mex’s closure is another loss for the University District after popular bar, Ugly Tuna Saloona closed early last month and with The O Patio and Pub scheduled to close later this summer.
