In light of a new semester, Fishbowl Improv is looking to add new members to the comedy club.

Fishbowl Improv will be holding auditions for the spring semester starting Wednesday, and will continue on Thursday and Sunday.

Jackson Donaldson, a fourth-year in electrical engineering and the club’s president, said the group tries to accomodate students’ schedules, which is why auditions are being held on three separate days.

There are currently 15 members who will also attend auditions and lead those auditioning in a few common improvisation warm-ups, Donaldson said.

“We learn everyone’s name and try to make everyone comfortable,” Donaldson said.

Once warm-ups have ended, each person auditioning will do three to four scenes together, and then again with a current member. During the scenes, the club actively searches for “people that are comfortable performing and are a good fit for the group.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting those new people and seeing what ideas they have and just having a lot of fun,” Donaldson said.

Alyssa Hopkins, a fourth-year in speech and hearing science and treasurer of Fishbowl Improv, has been involved in the group for two years and recalled enjoying the audition process.

“I remember I was super nervous, but then I felt really good leaving because everyone was super nice,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins said the club is very open to feedback from anyone auditioning, so that members can use the information to improve the process in the future and ensure success for anyone wanting to try out.

“We are so welcoming to everyone coming in and we want everyone to be comfortable,” Hopkins said. “We want to make it the easiest process that we can for our auditionees so that they feel like they’re in an environment that’s comfortable to them and will allow them to do improv the best that they can.”

Hopkins said Fishbowl Improv is very supportive to members and that the audition process is no different.

“We understand the nerves, but we’re also here because we do love to see auditionees come in and we love to see all the new talent,” Hopkins said. “We’re going to laugh at everything because we love watching improv — we’re huge dorks for it.”

Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and at 11 a.m. Sunday in Enarson Classroom Building in Room 222.
