Ohio State landed the third four-star defensive back of its 2020 recruiting class Tuesday when Arizona safety Lathan Ransom announced his commitment on social media.

Ransom is the No. 4 ranked safety in the country and the No. 76 overall prospect in his class per 247Sports.

Prior to Ransom, first-year co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley had gained commitments from Clark Phillips, the No. 4 cornerback in the country, and Lejond Cavazos, a top 20 rated safety.

With Ransom’s commitment, Ohio State’s 2020 class will be its first since before 2000 to feature both a top 5 cornerback and a top 5 safety.

The 6-foot, 193-pound Ransom becomes Ohio State’s sixth defensive commitment since June 16, and the seventh if three-star athlete Cameron Martinez, who will be worked out both as a wide receiver and safety, is counted.
