Columbus, Ohio, bars are no strangers to craft beer, but a new establishment is adding a different kind of craft to the menu.

Makers Social, a full-service bar offering do-it-yourself projects, opened its doors Thursday in Franklinton.

Makers Social offers a variety of activities, including hand-stitching leather wallets, building wooden beer caddies and beading jewelry, according to the Makers Social website. Some of the cocktails offered include The Knotty Screwdriver, Moscow Tools and The Iron Mallet.

Megan Pando, founder of Makers Social, said she came up with the idea because she wanted to create a crafty makerspace like no other.

“There’s so many things on Pinterest we always pin, but never actually make. So, my idea was to make a bar where people could make those kinds of Pinterest projects and also have some fun with a cocktail,” Pando said.

The skill range for each project requires no experience and can cost from $30 to $80, according to the website.

Pando said instructors will help guide attendees through the artistic processes, but guests can still take charge of what they want to do.

While the primary concept is creating a project, Pando said it is not required for entry and anyone is welcome, even if it’s just to drink.

Lisa Allison, a member of the Franklinton community, said she stopped in with her husband to see what the buzz was about after finding Makers Social online.

Allison is no stranger to a creative night out but said she appreciates the unusual concept.

“I like the sip and painting places, but I really like this because it keeps you on your toes,” Allison said.

The bar takes reservations, allows walk-ins and hosts private events for groups of 20 or more.

Makers Social is open from 5 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and is located at 461 W. Rich St. in Franklinton.
