With the intention of capturing a DJ at their best, Moonshine Records Mixed Live series delivers a winner with their newest installment “Mixed Live: Tall Paul.”

The album catches Tall Paul, a world renowned English DJ, spinning in Los Angeles for the reopening of the super club Giant in the massive main hall of the Plaza hotel.

Everything from the shouts of the crowd to cracks from the vinyl records combine together to create a realistic listening experience far more entertaining than a perfectly mixed studio album. The “Mixed Live” effect allows listeners to feel a part of the audience themselves.

The 1998 Muzik Magazine “DJ of the Year,” opens the album slowly with a mix of Mauro Picotto’s club classic, “Like This, Like That,” before playing several uplifting house songs, highlighted by stunning mixes of Mutiny UK’s “The Virus” and Afrika Bambaataa’s “Funky Heroes.”

Tall Paul takes the album in an entirely different direction, slowing things down with a few low tempo trance songs, including a blissful version of “Sunset on Ibiza,” by Three Drives and Accadia’s “Into the Dawn.”

This middle part of the album gives the listener a break and offers a chance to relax after the fast paced-intense beginning.

The break also includes the best song on the CD, Tall Paul’s own “Precious Heart,” which he inserts during the middle of the set. The song is a remix of the classic 1987 INXS song “Never Tear Us Apart,” and has quickly become a club classic.

Throughout the middle of the CD, Tall Paul steadily builds up the intensity level in the music to a near boiling point before exploding into the final part of the album with the hard house song “God’s Love,” by Tall Tin Box.

He finishes out the album with a few more house tunes that leave the listener asking for an encore.

This CD is like any great live music show, the further into it you get, the better it gets.

Tall Paul shows why he is regarded as one of the world’s top DJs by seamlessly mixing together several different styles of techno music into one smooth, pleasant sound.

As the album progresses, he takes the listener up and down with his music.

Whether you are out there desperately searching for good live electronic music, or just looking for something to play at a party, this CD is a necessity.

It features some of the best electronic music out today, and it is a chance to bring one of the world’s best DJs home to your living room.
