So Riddick Bowe wants to be a Marine. Maybe he’ll have better luck with that adventure than he has with his previous boxing matches.Usually I can form an opinion on almost anything and anybody, but here I find myself confused on why Bowe wants to join the Corps. The former heavyweight champion said it has always been a childhood dream to become a Marine, and he would have done it earlier if his wife had not become pregnant in 1986.The question is why?Why do it at the age of 29? Bowe will be more than 10 years older than most of the other participants in boot camp. His nickname is ‘Big Daddy’, now we know why. Maybe it’s because of his pride growing up in the nation’s capitol. Is he doing it because he wants some type of discipline? Does Bowe want to take orders instead of giving them. Does he want to do a complete 180 degree spin on the way his career has gone in the past few years?Or is Bowe doing this to gain some notoriety for a fading boxing career. This undoubtedly will create some sort of media attention. If the man is following his dream, then I wish him the best of luck, because he’ll need it. Boot camp is one of the most difficult things to do. You go through mental anguish alongside probable physical pain. For Bowe’s sake I hope he is doing it to establish some type of control in his life. His last two fights against Andrew Golota showed that he has lost his edge as a boxer. Granted, Golota hit him where a man should not be hit, but Bowe was losing both fights at the time. In a way, he was lucky to be punched down under, he was a humbled winner instead of a humiliated loser. But I still have a lingering thought in the back of my mind that Bowe is no better than any other person associated with the sport of boxing. In the land of Don King, every thing is done for only two reasons: Media hype and money.Don’t be surprised when Bowe comes out of boot camp (if he survives), and some sort of multi-million dollar fight is in the works involving Bowe. The few, the proud, Riddick Bowe. Somehow it doesn’t make sense. Then again the world of boxing does not make sense.Riddick I got one thing to say to you my friend;Semper Fi
