The Lady Buckeyes failed to break their losing streak Sunday by suffering a 17 point loss at home to Penn State.Unable to recover from a weak start in the second half, the Bucks lost all control missing wide open lay-ups, under the board plays and free throw points that lead to their 83-66 loss.’If the game continued like that, then we needed to focus in on those three things and contain those three things,’ said head coach Nancy Darsch.Containing the Lions from scoring the way they did in the first half however was a failed attempt, Darsch said.’I don’t know that we should have fallen down as we did initially,’ said Darsch. ‘None the less, we did fight back.’ That fighting back came in many forms, including the Bucks first lead over the Lions when guard Marcie Alberts fed Tiffany Glosson under the boards for two, taking the Ohio State lead to 16-15. Glosson drew a foul that led to another one of her eight points.Tara Mitchem continued the drive for OSU, scoring off a failed shot by Alberts, making the score 18-15, in favor of OSU. Penn State’s Shauntai Hall quickly answered back with three of her 18 points tying the score 18-18. Penn State guard Helen Darling was the biggest threat to the Bucks, returning home to Columbus, scoring 19 points, her career high.’It feels great,’ Darling said on the win. ‘I just hope we keep on winning.’Not far behind Darling in points for the Lions was senior guard Tiffany Longworth with 14 points. Not a threat in the first half, Longworth had an explosive second half, shooting five for seven.’She’s played well every year here, it didn’t surprise me at all,’ said Darsch. ‘She’s done this to us every year.’The closest the Buckeyes came to the lead in the second half was when forward Larecha Jones scored two under the boards taking the game to 41-41 at the 18:20 mark. ‘We were out rebounded on the offensive end,’ said forward Marrita Porter. ‘They got some great rebounds, especially at the end of the second half.’The Lady Bucks have seven games left this season, playing five on the road. ‘People stepped up tonight that haven’t done it all year for them,’ said Alberts. ‘I don’t want to give up and I don’t think that we as players want to give up, but we have to stick together.’
