Hail to the victors! The defending national champions Michigan hockey team has heard that song many times this season as they are rolling through the CCHA again. The Wolverines are currently leading the CCHA and are ranked first nationally.’Michigan is the best team in the nation and I think you will see why on Thursday,’ Ohio State coach John Markell said. The Michigan express will roll into Columbus trying to extend a 20-game unbeaten streak. The Buckeyes will be awaiting the Wolverines trying to de-rail their mighty rival for the first time since 1988.Michigan brings to town a high-octane offense led by All-American and Hobey Baker Award favorite Brendan Morrison.Accompanying Morrison are junior Matt Herr and seniors John Madden and Mike Legg, who is known for his ESPY nominated lacrosse style goal against Minnesota last season.Herr, Madden, Legg and Morrison have combined for 73 goals this season, just 17 shy of Ohio State’s total for the year.’We will try to eliminate their transition game, bottle them up with the trap and Ray Aho will have to continue to play well,’ Markell said.Aho, a Michigan native, has won the defensive player of the week the last two weeks.’Michigan has a great team but I got to just go out there and play my game,’ Aho said. The puck will drop tonight at 7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.
