With the cold and flu season upon us, we could all use a dose of vitamin C. It is safe to say, after this review, you should stick to the pill and avoid the more sugary version in the form of pop diva Vitamin C’s latest album, “More.”

Sure, it has songs that are so catchy even your over-blown nose will want to sway with the beat. This particularly applies to the infectious number, “the itch.” This song should come with a warning label that says listening to it more than once will leave a permanent imprint on your brain by having the song to replay over and over in your head mercilessly until you are ready to take any necessary measure to stop it.

Simply put, “More” is no different than any of the other pop superstars mainstream muddle. If anything, it is more annoying. Vitamin C might be slightly more daring in her choice of lyrics than say, Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears, but the end result sounds like something geared more towards 13-year-olds than a more mature sophomore album. Try setting a song called “sex has come between us” to the similar sound of Hanson’s “MmmBop” and brace yourself for the rather odd outcome.

Unfortunately, this is not the only problem that plagues “More.”

The unusually soulful “that was then, this was now” sounds strangely similar to Vitamin C’s 2000 spring hit “Graduation (friends forever).” For those not overly familiar with the overplayed tune, you might slip right past the resemblance.

For those of us with radios, this song will either have you screaming with your ears covered or fondly remembering the sweet memories of last spring. Either way, the song is in no way original and should have been saved for release until the dust had further settled on its predecessor.

Other songs on the album would be rather forgettable if they did not incorporate some of the oddest and most hilarious lyrics ever to grace a pop album. “The itch” features a line that, upon constant replay to verify its true meaning, says, “You can’t reach where I need scratching.”

Similarly, “dangerous girl” has interesting lyrics such as “You are my eye candy, you are my phat daddy.” This is just a sampling of the lyrical absurdity encased in this 12-song journey through pop hell.

If you can’t resist “the itch,” wait for the single to be released. Otherwise, fight the urge to submit to the pop-lover in us all and wait for Jessica Simpson’s upcoming release.
