Although a bird’s mental compass to head south for the winter may be the brighter idea, Ohio State students have opted to head east torwards the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Easton Town Center.
Recognized throughout the nation as a high-quality, “A-list” club, Mimi Cahill, the night operations manager said the Funny Bone’s wide variety of comedians will surely tickle anyone’s funny bone.
“We have three comedians per show, so if one comedian may not spark your sense of humor, the other will,” said Cahill. “People also need to come in open-minded, because even though they may not recognize the comedian’s name, chances are they are up-and-coming stars.”
The club has hosted a strong caliber of celebrity-status stars, including Jerry Seinfield, Drew Carry and Dave Chappelle. Many of the familiar faces performing at the Funny Bone Comedy Club also are credited as airtime veterans on “Comedy Central,” “Showtime” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” The performing comedians are selected through the customers popular request and random suggestions.
Those interested in escaping the cold to warm themselves with the club’s laughter can expect an $8 to $15 cost expenditure and should also make reservations to ensure their adequate seating preferences are secured.
Bill Foley, a regular Funny Bone comedian said although ticket prices may financially discourage the students, they will quickly be reimbursed with the belly-aching laughter produced by a diverse array of entertainers.
“Comedy reaches everyone – it’s universal. That is why the Funny Bone is the best place to go because it is such a huge melting pot of comedy.”
Mark Kaschner, a senior in electrical engineering, is impressed by the comical talents of each comedian and said people in Columbus are fortunate to have alternative forms of entertainment at their dispsosal.
“You can only go out to the bars or movies for so long. This is a nice change. You would think a place like the Funny Bone would only exist in New York or L.A., but it’s right here in Easton,” said Kachner. “The comedians are really top-shelf, so after a couple of cocktails, it’s all over from there!”
