The Ohio State women’s basketball team just can’t seem to hit their stride. After cruising through a soft non-conference schedule, the Lady Buckeyes have hit a ‘conference’ wall. The women (10-9 overall) have only managed two wins in nine attempts in conference play and are coming off a 83-66 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Bucks will try again tonight as they face the Indiana Hoosiers (11-8, 4-5) at Assembly Hall.Coach Darsch thinks that it will be good to get on the road for a game or two.’I think that a change of scenery will be good for us,’ Darsch said. ‘I think that our team has, more than once, regrouped and played well on the road.’The Hoosiers are still celebrating a 51-50 victory over Purdue as Indiana sank a shot in the final seconds to win the game.’It’s a hard fought game each time OSU and Indiana meet and I expect the same thing this time,’ Indiana coach Jim Izard said.Last year, in a game much like IU’s victory against Purdue, Indiana’s Bridget Porter sank a three-pointer to beat OSU at the buzzer.’We have too many times that we are inconsistent or where we just don’t figure things out,’ Darsch said.Darsch now has the task to try and stop the bleeding. To do this, she will need solid games from her starters.Larecha Jones, a sophomore from Flint, Mich., leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game.If the game is tight, the Bucks will turn to senior guard Marcie Alberts, who has connected on 49 three-pointers this year and shoots 91.9 percent from the free throw line.’They’ve got a real leader in Marcie Alberts,’ Izard said of the way Alberts sets the tempo and controls both the offense and defense.Roslyn Barker, a sophomore from Chicago, Ill., was held scoreless in the Buckeyes last meeting but hopes to turn things around against Indiana.Barker said that a win on the road would be a huge emotional and physical boost for the team.’We need some confidence. I think that we have been working on it, practicing hard and trying to be positive,’ Barker said.
