An Ohio State student learned a costly lesson Sunday night when a check written out for $10 million was stolen from his coat inside Larkins Hall.Young Woo Chang told University Police he left his coat hanging outside of the red gym between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. When he returned, the jacket and his wallet were missing.The check was written as a joke for a friend and had been left in the wallet along with his credit cards, driver’s license and $96 in cash.Police have no suspects.

Basketball rebounder claims assault at recreation center

A loose ball foul turned ugly on Jan. 8 when an OSU student was assaulted while battling for a rebound at Jesse Owens South Recreation Center. Darin L. Reynolds told University Police he was purposely hit by another man while struggling under the backboard for the ball.The man accused of assaulting Reynolds told police there were about five people reaching for the ball and when his hands slipped off the ball, he accidentally hit Reynolds in the eye.Most witnesses interviewed on the court said the incident was an accident.

Faculty books stolenfrom locked Bricker Hall display case A display case in Bricker Hall containing books written by OSU faculty members was plundered recently by thieves who stole $344 worth of books.Dianne Efsic, a typist for the Department of Sociology, told University Police Friday that the books were stolen after the thieves removed the lock that secured the books in the case. The thieves were selective, stealing only 13 of the books while leaving a number of other texts in the case or on the floor.Among the books stolen were ‘The New Other Woman’, ‘Feminist Frontier’ and ‘Dynamics of Sex and Gender II.’Police have no suspects.
