The Jägermeister Music Tour is back, and Sunday the liqueur company and Clear Channel Entertainment will bring their metal madness to the Promowest Pavilion. The national tour features performances by Slipknot, Fear Factory, Chimaira and 40 Below Summer.

This is the fourth installment of the Jägermeister Music Tour. Past tours have featured Slayer, Hatebreed, Saliva, (hed) Planet Earth, Drowning Pool, Ill Niño and Coal Chamber.

“The Jägermeister Music Tour is one of the true artist development success stories of the past three years,” said Rich Levy, vice president of booking at Clear Channel Entertainment. “We are thrilled to be affiliated with a brand like Jägermeister who continues to invest in developing artists and bringing value to the fans.”

With tickets priced at $26.50, concert-goers can expect plenty of bang for their buck with prizes and giveaways of other Jägermeister promotional items such as CDs, T-shirts and hats. Other prizes and giveaways will include custom tour prizes from sponsors such as Schecter Guitars, Peavey Electronics, Pearl Drums, Meinl Cymbals and Coffin Case.

“The scope of this tour just keeps growing and growing,” said Lee Einsidler, executive vice president of sales and marketing of Sidney Frank Importing Co., Inc., the importer of Jägermeister liqueur. “This year, we’ll continue the momentum by bringing a great tour to dedicated music fans.”

Slipknot fans will get the first taste of music from the band’s new album, “Vol. 3: Subliminal Verses,” which hits stores May 25. This is the band’s first effort after a two-year hiatus.

“The third installment is coming,” said Slipnot lead singer Corey Taylor. “Do you all know what you are in for? There is a reason the myths are true, and we’re about to prove it again. And what a better place to prove then on the Jägermeister Tour. Get ready: You lose.”

Most shows, including the one in Columbus, have sold out. If the rumor mill proves true, this could be the beginning of the end for this group of metal-masked rockers.

Before the band started recording together for their newest album, rumors about a breakup were rampant. Then in January of last year, Taylor posted a message on the Web site of his other band, Stone Sour, saying that this would be Slipknot’s last album.

“We accomplished something everyone said we couldn’t do,” Taylor wrote. “We put out two of the best albums, in my opinion, of all time. I believe we can go out on a high note. But as far as hanging out after we have lost our relevance? Never.”

No update has been given as to whether this is indeed the band’s last album.

Joining Slipknot on the bill will be Fear Factory, Chimaira and 40 Below Summer, all of whom are promoting their own new albums.

Fans who have not bought tickets yet are out of luck: Tickets are sold out. Doors open at 7 p.m. Call the Newport concert line at 358-ROCK for more information.
