Asian currency crisis affects all
People take heed, there is an evil among us. It is called the global perspective, and it is the harbinger of the future.I have to take a deep breath every time many of my acquaintances speak about the economic crisis in Asia. I suppose they believe they live in some kind of cocoon, insulated by the great American dream of severance or just their thick skulls. For those who believe occurrences like these do no affect you, directly or indirectly, think again. It’s called capitalism, and it’s how the free world operates on a daily basis. You may think, as you read another article or listen to another news report of the president’s latest scandal, that ‘Asia is clear across the world, if it doesn’t affect my paycheck, who cares.’It is this type of arrogance and ignorance embedded in our culture which contributed to Asia’s rapid economic success after World War II. We are now in the same position as we were then, coming to the rescue in a crisis situation. If we do not keep our minds and eyes open to Asia’s reforms, industrial restructuring and post-crisis development, then this vicious circle will perpetuate itself into the next millennium. And for those who still believe your life and America is in a state of economic infallibility, just try to link that October day in 1929 to recent news articles and reports coming out of Korea. Consider then how quickly your life may be altered permanently.
