Student gives up on Clinton scandal
March 4, 1998. We are now over two months deep into this Clinton/Lewinsky/Starr/Whatever you want to call it abyss and I have come to the conclusion that I am, without a doubt, one of the last Americans left that hasn’t developed his own opinion on this fiasco. I spent my time in front of the television watching CNN; I read the ridiculous reports from the AP in the Lantern but have remained somewhat confused and on the verge of just walking away from politics and the future I want in it. Sure, there are a handful of others as equally clueless as I, but we have excuses: Prozac and professional wrestling have clouded our minds and we have accepted the consequences of our actions. If you don’t believe me just look around.I read somewhere that Clinton has reached a 73 percent approval rating, meaning the people could care less about a couple of inquiries regarding oral sex and semen stained dresses. Why is this? Do we really have the morals of Frenchmen? The truth is that Clinton is not a good natured man, he had to give up those kinds of ideas years ago when he first ran for public office. But that was of no concern to him because the public digs it, and they have their reasons why. If Clinton was indeed a dignified man, he would be earning an honest living for his family the good old fashioned American way: milking goats, selling used cars, or some other nonsense. But no, the people spoke and Clinton has become the shadow of our times. Our heroes today are on MTV, prime-time dramas, and shampoo commercials. These heroes are terribly more beautiful, hipper, happier and are earning a lot more money than those 535 fogies in Congress. And besides, all that they really know how to do is make us laugh.Loud stereos, fast motorcycles and Lemon Lime Freshness are all we need to wean our diminishing interests away from Capitol Hill once and for all. Man found this Limbo of the soul as he headed into the 90s and has since scarcely looked back, almost completely ceasing to care. Others, such as the minority lot burdened with values trapped in leftist rhetoric are starving for answers and wonder why Saint Pete won’t let them through the Gates.Hunter S. Thompson wrote, “The Lewd revolution is coming; that is the message, and Bill Clinton is only one of the messengers.” And he is right. So who are we to stop the course of history? Clinton is only a base coach telling us that soon it will be time to steal third and then we will be on our way home with another run for the Good Guys. And after the game we can all gather in the showers and relax a little bit. Responsibilities be damned. Limbo is just too sweet.
