Ohio State students who do not want to hibernate this winter may like to try three of the primary ski resorts located throughout the state.”Skiing on Ohio hills isn’t as exciting as skiing in the mountains of West Virginia, but it’s less expensive and it helps to make winter a little more fun,” said Wendy Hammond, a senior majoring in business.Mad River Mountain, located in Bellefontaine less than an hour northwest of Columbus, offers 14 slopes for skiing and snowboarding. Mad River has special weekend skiing from midnight to 4 a.m., called Midnight Madness, said Susie Holycross, an administrative assistant. During Midnight Madness hours, the cost of a lift ticket is $14 and rental equipment is $18, she said.Mad River Mountain offers lessons for beginning skiers and snowboarders. Group skiing lessons are $10 an hour, and group lessons in snowboarding are $12, Holycross said. Mad River also has private lessons for $29 an hour, she said.Another of Ohio’s ski resorts is Clear Fork Ski Area in Butler. Clear Fork has nine ski slopes, said manager Danja Seidel. Group lessons are $8.50 an hour and private lessons are $26 an hour, she said.Snow Trails Ski Resort, about one hour northeast of Columbus in Mansfield, has 12 ski slopes ranging from beginner to advanced. Snow Trails has group lessons for $9 an hour and private lessons for $24 an hour, said Abbey Parker, a guest services assistant.
