Cleveland Indians fans finally have something to cheer about. It’s been nearly 50 years in the making, and now the Tribe has a better chance than ever to walk away at the end of the week with a World Series title. The past two nights I have spent hours in crowded bars filled with Tribe fans watching and rooting for our beloved Cleveland Indians. And despite Tuesday’s disappointing loss, the Indians seem to have gotten back on track. The bats have been steaming hot throughout the Series and the fielding improved Wednesday after three errors on Tuesday. A bullpen that blew a two-run lead by giving up seven runs in the ninth inning Tuesday even bounced back, as Brian Anderson pitched three scoreless innings and picked up a save Wednesday night. The Indians have hammered the Marlins starting pitchers Kevin Brown, Al Leiter, and Tony Saunders. While the Indians starting rotation, for the most part, has kept the Marlins heavy-hitting lineup in shambles. The primary pitching concerns for Cleveland should be the weary bullpen staff. The overpaid Eric Plunk can be held mostly responsible for Tuesday’s disaster, having given up four runs and taking the loss. Manager Mike Hargrove will think long and hard before calling Plunk’s number again. In order for the Indians to bring home the World Series title for which all true die-hard Tribe fans have been yearning, they will have to rely on the red-hot offense to provide big leads. The offense has been led by Marquis Grissom, who nearly doubled his regular season average and has now hit safely in 15 consecutive World Series games (dating back to his stint with Atlanta). Jim Thome has hit two home runs off Marlins pitchers and Sandy Alomar Jr. has a golden opportunity to become the first player to be crowned both All Star MVP and World Series MVP.With such an explosive offense and consistently decent pitching by the Tribe starters, I take Cleveland to win the Series in game seven, in Florida, if Jaret Wright takes the mound.
