Why do we print this stuff: QB controversy

Casey Laughman’s article, “Stanley Jackson is the Better Quarterback,” could not be more wrong. The whole article attempts to use senseless statistics to justify Stanley Jackson’s over-extended senior year playing time. Statistics do not win games, Joe Germaine does. Every Pro-Stanley Jackson person loves to point out how he is 20-1 as a starter. Would anyone like to guess what Germaine’s record is coming in for relief of the senior captain? That’s right, 20-1. And the most amazing win that Jackson gets credit for as a starter is the Rose Bowl victory last season in which Joe Germaine received MVP honors. If you are stuck on statistics, though, take this into consideration. If you take out the Penn State game, Joe Germaine has 124 attempts to Stanley Jackson’s 107. Now consider all the times Stanley drops back, looks at one receiver, then tucks the ball and runs. Add those to the 107 passes he actually threw and it seems that HE gets more pass plays called than Joe Germaine. Stanley Jackson fans should never claim that the “running quarterback” could be deadly if he was given the chance to throw more because Coach Cooper’s staff gives him the opportunity to air it out. He just doesn’t take advantage of it. Stanley likes to wait for his receiver to be completely open before he throws it. By that time, it’s too late. A perfect example was against Illinois when David Boston was WIDE open on a post pattern going towards the closed end of the ‘Shoe and Stanley under threw him. Wisely, that was Jackson’s last play of the game. Chances like this will be rare against the #1 team in the nation. So when they do come along this weekend, let’s hope that Joe Germaine is in the game.
