Imagine the frustration that comes from 14 months of construction and malfunctioning heat in a dormitory room. Mike Littlejohn, an international studies major, has experienced this and he said the newly remodeled Mack Hall was well worth the wait. This is the second year that Mack Hall is being used for Stadium Scholarship Housing, a program that over 300 students are involved in this year. In exchange for a reduced rate on room and board, the students work five to eight hours a week in the hall’s dining commons, front office or convenience store. This is Littlejohn’s fifth year in the program, and he is excited about the new accommodations. “I didn’t expect it to look like this; it is so homey now. Everything’s brand-spanking new. What other dorms have wood,” he said. The dorm now contains bedrooms with vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, balconies, wood paneling and a spacious study lounge.Mike Kaptik, director of Mack Hall said, “It looks like a collegiate building. Any student will be able to find a comfortable place to study.”Steve Kremer, director of residence life, is also pleased with the renovations. “Mack Hall is one of the more architecturally-pleasing buildings on campus, and to do a renovation project of this magnitude made it take longer than expected,” said Kremer.Kremer said that Mack Hall is now accessible to everyone. “Now that it is accessible to disabled students, the program can be opened to anyone.”Alumni and students will celebrate the grand reopening of the Stadium Scholarship Housing program at Mack Hall on Saturday.
