One of the most innovative and respected acts in the world of electronic music, Deep Dish featuring Sharam, will play a special four-and-a-half-hour set tomorrow at Fabric nightclub and lounge, 40 E. Long St.

“Deep Dish is one of the 10 biggest names in the dance music genre today,” said promoter Evan Glassman. “We are very lucky to have them play in such a small venue. People in other cities are just amazed at what we are doing.”

The Washington, D.C.-based DJ duo of Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi was ranked tenth in DJ magazine’s Top 100 poll and selected as Rolling Stone’s number-two pick for “Best Dance/DJ Artist” in 2001.

The duo first met in 1991 while DJing at the same party in Washington, D.C. The following year, Shirazinia and Tayebi formed Deep Dish and began playing together at some of the city’s top clubs, gaining more and more attention for their exotic, experimental deep house sound.

The two quickly became the one of the city’s most popular DJ acts and had several early dance chart singles, including “High Frequency” and “Casa de X,” both released in 1994.

Deep Dish’s popularity skyrocketed in 1998 when they released their ground-breaking debut album, “Junk Science.” The critically-praised album led to the duo becoming known throughout the world, and it introduced numerous new musical concepts, breathing a new life into the house music scene.

Over the past few years the playing style of Deep Dish has continued to evolve as the DJs continue to push the boundaries of electronic music.

Performing both together and separately, Shirazinia and Tayebi have played all over the world, from Ibiza to New York City. The group has also held residencies at some of the world’s top clubs, including England’s Renaissance, Space in Miami and New York’s Twilo, according to the duo’s management.

Along the way Shirazinia and Tayebi have also become two of the world’s most sought-after remixers, mixing songs at the request of The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and N’Sync.

In 2000 Deep Dish was nominated for the “Best Remixer of the Year” Grammy award for its remix of Madonna’s “Music,” and last year the duo won the Grammy award for “Best Remixed Recording” with its remix of Dido’s “Thank You.”

The duo’s rapidly rising mainstream popularity and continued underground following have made it one of the most unique acts in electronic music today. After performing for almost ten years, Deep Dish has the rare distinction of being both a pioneer and a trendsetter in electronic music.

As a DJ, Tayebi’s sets emphasize playing the harder side of music from the Deep Dish partnership. He recently completed a solo tour of Canada, where he played at some of the country’s top clubs, such as Montreal’s Stereo and the Plaza in Vancouver.

Deep Dish is on tour promoting its newest album, “Global Underground 21: Moscow,” a compilation based on a show the duo played at Russia’s renowned Club XIII last year.

Tonight’s event is the first appearance by Deep Dish in Columbus.

The show is open to people 18 and older. Admission is $10. Doors open at 10 p.m., and the show will begin shortly thereafter. There is no dress code.
