First woman receives bachelor’s degree
May 3, 1870: OSU defeated Ohio Wesleyan in football, the first intercollegiate game for OSU. Another first on this day occurred in 1879 when Mary Frank Morrison became the first woman to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from the university.
University officially dubbed Ohio State
May 1, 1878: The Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College changed its name to The Ohio State University.
Auditorium opens, OSU gets new prez
April 29, 1957: Mershon Auditorium dedicated. Also on this day Novice G. Fawcett inaugurated as the eighth president of Ohio State.
Trustees create Women’s Studies
May 2, 1980: The Center for Women’s Studies is established in the College of Humanities by the university Board of Trustees.
