Please kick Joey Maresca off The Lantern columnist staff. His editorial, “For ID, drop the veil and say Cheese” is written at a fifth-grade level. I can’t understand how any journalist staff writer could let his drivel make it to print.
I agree with his message that people should show their whole face in ID pictures, but his article should be about security, safety and the general principle behind identification. It should not be about how he knows that there are Muslim women at Ohio State and that they think they don’t need to wear veils. Trust me.
Joey Maresca has no idea about the principles, doctrines and beliefs of Islam. At the end of the article he says, “If we allow everyone to have licences with concealed pictures …” We’re not allowing anything. This is a frivolus case pending in court.
His writing style and facts make zero sense; it actually hurts my brain to read it and imagine that someone is capable of such incompetence. He should stick to engineering and leave the journalism to people who actually know what they are doing.
