Being kissed usually makes people think they have good luck.
Until now.
Lindsay Lohan’s new movie, “Just My Luck,” dabbles with the idea of luck and what happens when it runs out. The movie portrays how people are superstitious to the point that they drive themselves insane.
Murphy’s Law comes into play, as anything bad that could possibly happen to Ashley does. Her shoe breaks, her dress rips and is rained on, she loses her job and everything she touches falls apart. It’s worlds away from when she had good luck; it was always sunny and she got promotions and free designer clothes. The story would have made the audience depressed if it were not for the lead actors.
The movie has 19-year-old Lohan playing a woman in her 20s. This unlikely choice is shocking at the beginning of the movie as most people know too much about Lohan to think that she can pull off a successful New York businesswoman. Strange as it might seem, she does manage to pull it off well.
Her actor friends help Lohan try to get her luck back. Their sweet and genuine personalities make her realize the true definition of luck.
Leading man Pine (“Princess Diaries 2”), is one reason that every female should see this movie. He is optimistic, cute and most importantly, sweet. His little cousin plays his best friend, which makes the audience fall in love with Pine from the beginning of the movie.
Pine plays the manager of a band called “McFly,” a group of British boys playing what he describes as a mix of “The Beatles” and “Blink 182.” The band’s songs give the movie a distinct soundtrack which helps the film flow.
“Just My Luck,” might be about bad luck, but it seems that throughout the movie the characters just have bad lives. There are a lot of toilet scenes that would make anyone feel bad for the characters, and at some points their lives get so bad that it is hard to watch.
The dilemma in the movie is solved with a surprising twist. Lohan and Pine’s chemistry helps make a movie that can make anyone down feel happy.
Lohan’s first acting attempt at being an adult is well done. I hope it’s not just beginner’s luck.
