To the editor:
I was one of the many vehicles pulled over the other day for ‘speeding’ over the Woody Hayes Bridge. There were four police cars idly waiting for people to come over the bridge at their usual speeds so they could issue tickets and make the driver aware of the posted speed limit of 25 mph.
I am not a hypocrite, I’ve sped before and I’ll probably speed again. Though I understand the need to enforce traffic laws, I am aggravated by the inconsistency in police behavior and more importantly their intent.
On the day my ticket was issued, it was a beautiful day with high visibility, dry pavement and no other vehicles (besides the ones already pulled over). I was not driving recklessly, I signaled when I switched lanes, but I was going 40mph so I was pulled over and issued a ticket.
I am frustrated that the OSU police waste resources on setting up elaborate speed traps in remote parts of campus. Should they not be focused on patrolling the high crime areas around campus?
