The University Police family just got a little bigger.

Four new police officers, already sworn in at the time of the ceremony, were formally welcomed Tuesday afternoon at Blankenship Hall.

Mark Sandbrink, 31, was a police officer for nine years in Lancaster, Ohio before joining the University Police.

“I was looking for a change,” Sandbrink said. “They have an outstanding department.”

Chris Chambers, 41, said he always wanted a career in law enforcement.

“I’ve been in the business world for 20 years,” Chambers said. “This is making my dream come true.”

He was previously an auxiliary police officer in Whitehall.

Brian Botkin, 29, described joining as a “dream come true.”

He comes to the department from West Jefferson, Ohio where he was a police officer for a year and a half after spending five years in Mount Sterling, Ohio.

Adam Tabor, 39, comes from a different background.

“I’ve been a high school teacher for the past 15 years,” he said. He taught chemistry and physics, and spent his summers working in law enforcement before joining the University Police.

The four officers were not the only new employees announced Tuesday. Alexis Bolt was welcomed as a new dispatcher and Paul Trojanowski was welcomed in the newly created position of campus protection officer. This new position assists officers with non-emergency duties, such as people being locked out of their car, said Todd Hunter, Human Resources Manager of Public Safety.

The door hasn’t closed on newcomers quite yet.

“We’re currently accepting applications through Saturday,” Denton said.
