Starting April 20, student information regarding scheduling, finances and personal information will be relocated to a new Web site created by Student Information System.
The transition to the new SIS site, Student Center, will cause several Web sites to go offline, including those of the Registrar, Admissions, Student Financial Aid, the Bursar, Human Resources and the student portion of BuckeyeLink, according to the SIS Web site. Students will be unable to access these sites from 5 p.m. April 10 to 6:30 a.m. April 13.
The new Student Center will be available through the student tab at buckeyelink.osu.edu.
“Navigation is simple and we’re pleased with how it’s working,” said Brad Myers, university registrar and interim director of SFA.
The transition will change the way students add health insurance and register for classes.
“The requirements for [student health insurance] haven’t changed, but it is no longer part of registration,” said Aaron Minnick, one of the training developers for the SIS project. “There will be a to-do list item to prompt you to [add or drop student health insurance] and there is a link on the Web site to drop or add student health insurance.”
As for class registration, “a lot of it will be the same: enrollment windows, add classes based on the search,” Minnick said. “Classes are added to your shopping cart. You can either enroll each class individually or you can fill up your cart first and then enroll all at once.”
The Master Schedule, used to find classes, has a new format and a new name: Schedule of Classes, according to the SIS Web site. Additional search functions have been added and an online reference guide will be available on how to use the advanced search functions.
Students will also be able to handle their financial aid through the Student Center. All financial aid information, including the statement of account, will be located at the new site, and students will be able to pay fees by mail or e-check. A to-do list will show students what they need to complete their financial aid applications.
SIS will also include a new Faculty Center, where faculty will access their teaching schedule, class rosters and grade rosters, Minnick said.
“Next Tuesday, faculty and staff can start using the new system,” Myers said. Students can begin accessing the information the week of April 20 and class registration is April 27. An e-mail directing students to the Student Center should also be sent the week of April 20.
