Ohio State sophomore tight end Redgie Arden is facing charges of driving under the influence, after being pulled over early Sunday morning in his hometown of Ironton, Ohio. Arden was taken into custody after refusing to take a field sobriety test. He was released upon posting a $1,600 bail.

Arden, a co-defensive player of the year in high school, pleaded not guilty to DUI yesterday morning in Ironton Municipal Court. A court date has been set for June 26 at 9 a.m.

This is not Arden’s first brush with the law. In March 2002 he was arrested for drunken driving in Ironton, located about 100 miles south of Columbus. Arden pleaded guilty and spent six days in jail. His driver’s license was suspended for a year.

Arden was recruited for Ohio State’s football team as a linebacker but was converted to a tight end during spring practice. He was expected to remain on offense. No Ohio State Athletic Department member could be reached to comment on Arden’s future with the team.
