When reading the article “Rivalry cuts family ties” in The Lantern today, I was absolutely insulted by what Jim Brown had to say regarding Ohio State. In my experience, being an avid buckeye fan has not negatively affected the hard work and dedication I put into my studies and career here as a student. If anything, it has taught me teamwork and to have a sense of pride in what I believe.
Everyday I pass hundreds of students walking to class and with each quarter see successful graduates moving into the work force or pursuing graduate studies. I have no doubt that my education here at OSU, both in the classroom and the stands, will lead me to a successful career in the future.
In my opinion, Brown’s close-minded judgment that Ohio State’s student body is simply made up of football fanatics to whom education seems to come last, could not be further from the truth. I may not be a Michigan football fan but unlike Brown’s notions of OSU, I have always had a great respect for Michigan’s academic environment.
Ultimately, I find it disheartening that a professor visiting or otherwise, can display no sense of belief in the integrity of the students or university he/she is both educating and representing. I believe Brown owes a sincere apology not only to the students but the entire faculty and staff of this institution. For his remarks, seem to be the most uneducated of all.

I am disgusted by the comments made by Jim Brown in the “Rivalry cuts family ties”article on Nov. 15th. He insulted not only the great university that is Ohio State, but every student, professor and alumni that has ever set foot in a classroom.
Saying “you’re getting students graduating from here that are probably not getting as good of jobs as they could because lack of focus on academics” is absurd and deeply offensive.
He shows a deep lack of respect for the institution and the students that pay his salary. He also displays the same blind fanaticism that he decries by offering his biased opinion in place of fact. May we see the sources for your claim that OSU grads are not getting good jobs?
I call for his immediate suspension or dismissal from OSU. A man who insulted everyone connected to OSU does not deserve the honor of teaching the students who attend this fine university.
