If Suade has his way, his signature top hat will soon make him easily recognizable to people on the street.
The Atlanta-based artist will perform at this weekend’s Comfest in promotion of his upcoming debut album, “Real Man,” which he described as “a mixture of funk, pop and hip-hop catered to the ladies.”
Most of his songs, including the first single, “Don’t Rush,” which is available on MP3, deal with real life experiences.
“I think my music has a message, and it will help people realize that you’re not the only person who is going through this. You’re not the only person who’s had a bad relationship, or who wants to cherish your woman,” Suade said.
With musical influences ranging from Teddy Pendegrass and Luther Vandross to Michael Bolton and Garth Brooks, Suade’s music is diverse.
Suade writes all of his lyrics, but his vision is to raise his image above just singing and songwriting by emphasizing his strong sense of personal style and an energetic stage show.
“My top hat is my trademark, kind of like Superman’s cape,” he said. “If you don’t say anything about my style, then I haven’t succeeded. That’s what entertainment is about – making you think and ask questions.”
Suade said he gives his audiences an energetic, fun show, complete with lots of dancing.
“If you had a bad day, if you broke up with your boyfriend, I try to get your mind off it for a little while,” he said.
Suade has performed for Oprah Winfrey and opened for artists such as Lil’ Kim, Morris Day and the Time and Midnight Star.
He will perform at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Comfest, held in Goodale Park.
