An Ohio State student was arrested by Columbus Police Saturday night and charged with felonious assault in connection with shooting a woman with a paintball gun three weeks ago.Kristopher Semenovich, 18, an undecided freshman from Youngstown, Ohio, is being held in Franklin County Jail after his arrest in the shooting of a Kent State University student, Melinda Peterson, on Oct. 3 on East 16th Avenue.Felonious assault is a second degree felony which carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison. Semenovich is scheduled to be arraigned this morning at Franklin County Municipal Court.Bond is likely to be set at the time of his arraignment.Peterson suffered temporary blindness in her left eye when she was hit by a paintball while walking with several friends on East 16th Avenue. She was hospitalized at the OSU Medical Center for four days after the incident.The projectile caused Peterson to develop cataracts, which will require surgery.”With everything I’ve gone through, I’m glad that someone is going to pay,” Peterson said.Peterson is curious if Semenovich meant to hurt someone, or if he feels any remorse for what happened to her.The incident has affected Peterson in many ways. She says she doesn’t look the same, and she is afraid to go out at night. Peterson’s family plans to file civil charges to recover some of the medical costs. Doctors still cannot say if Peterson will ever completely regain her sight.
