The Ohio State men’s basketball team roster is now fourteen deep with the addition of freshman walk-on Brad Hosket. At team try outs last week, Hosket, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound guard from Upper Arlington beat out 36 other students for the final spot on the squad. “It’s a pretty neat feeling to come out on the floor,” Hosket said. “It’s really exciting to be here and be a part of the team.”Hosket practiced with the Buckeyes last season, but left the team the day before the first official practice in order to concentrate on his studies. Hosket said he decided to try out this year after meeting with Coach Jim O’Brien and learning how important receiving an education was to O’Brien.”He’s very concerned with education, which I like,” Hosket said. “He’s kind of understanding about getting a degree first and that’s the kind of person I wanted to play for.”Hosket said there are already great players on the team and he knows there will be little room for him to receive playing time, but looks forward to contributing during practices.”I like him a lot. I think he’s going to help us,” Coach O’Brien said. “He’s sharp kid. He’s very bright and he understands his role on the team.” Hosket is the third generation from his family to play for OSU. His grandfather, Bill Hosket Sr., played for the Buckeyes in 1933 and was followed by his son, Bill Hosket Jr., from 1965-68. Bill Hosket Jr., a two-time All-Big Ten team member, is fifteenth on OSU’s scoring list and fourth in rebounding. Brad Hosket will wear No. 25 this season-the same number his father wore. “I want to contribute in anyway,” Hosket said. “Even if that is coming out here at practice and playing as hard as I can and pushing other guys. I just want to benefit from the experience.”
