What started out as just a bad start, quickly turned into a nightmare and a huge embarrassment for the Ohio State men’s basketball program.Losing to the last place Northwestern Wildcats is one thing, but losing by a margin of 31 is outright disastrous.Randy Ayers, the leader of the program, must be feeling the pressure of losing his job at the end of the season. The pressure existed before this weekend, but it is mounting now more than ever.The basketball program is on its way to a fourth consecutive losing season and the question remains, is their any light at the end of the tunnel?Their is no easy answer to that question, the sad thing is that no one really knows what the future of the program is.The much talked about sophomore class has shown signs of being able to play Big Ten basketball, but they have also shown an inability to win tight games over quality competition. Beating the likes of Long Island University and the Ragin’ Cajuns of Southwestern Louisiana will not lead the program in the right direction. Strides are made against top twenty teams and other than the victory over Michigan the basketball program has not had many breakthrough performances over the past few years.The trouble makers are finally gone and every one on this team seems to have their heads on straight, but the winning results have not come.A new arena is on the way, but empty seats exist at St. John. And empty seats are reason number one why new coaches arrive and old ones are fired.
