The Columbus Crew is not giving up hope for a stadium in the Columbus area. “Right now we are fully committed to Central Ohio,” said Jamey Rootes, president and general manager of the Crew. “Our patience hasn’t run out yet.”The Crew cannot play in Ohio Stadium after the 1998 season due to planned renovations. The team is focusing on the season at hand, but future uncertainty is a matter of concern, Rootes said.”If we are comfortable with the long-term, we can handle the short-term,” he said. There are no specific details about a prospective stadium, but a decision needs to be made quickly, said Jeff Wuerth, director of public relations for the Crew.”Lamar [Hunt] is going to look at all the options,” Wuerth said. “There are quite a few out there.”Hunt, the owner of the Crew, is working with four communities, Rootes said. There are six other areas also under consideration.Three Central Ohio contenders are Gahanna, Grove City and London, Wuerth said.”Certainly we would welcome a stadium in Gahanna, it would make an attractive addition to the development in our area,” said Sadicka White, development director of Gahanna. “There are always benefits with special attractions that would draw people in to utilize the businesses.” London Mayor David Eades also feels a stadium would help attract more people to his city and help the economy.”We’re kind of centrally located, we can draw crowds from Dayton and Columbus,” Eades said. “The new businesses that would locate here would be a great benefit.”
