Is it possible to have fun without alcohol on a Friday night? Chris Pan, a resident advisor at Bradley Hall, thinks so.Although it is usually difficult to get residents to participate in programs, “The Late Show” drew over 100 students Friday night.Freshman Leo Kelly, 19, had a great time dancing at the party.”I usually go out and party but I figured I’d come here because everyone in my dorm was coming,” Kelly said.Pan said he wanted to show residents in Bradley and Paterson Halls that having fun on the weekends does not have to involve alcohol. He also wanted to get them acquainted with campus and to help them deal with life in the residence halls.”I just looked at the challenges freshmen face and I wanted to do a program they’d enjoy,” Pan said. The event consisted of a scavenger hunt, “The Late Show with Bradley-Paterson” and Afterhours. The scavenger hunt, which was intended to get students acquainted with campus, required students to go to different buildings around campus to get signatures.Pan sought the help of corporate and campus sponsors to offer $5000 in prizes. In total, 43 businesses donated to the program. The biggest donations came from Brueggers Bagels, Cord Camera, Barnes & Noble, Maybelline, and Bank One.The program offered more to residents than just dancing and prizes. Icebreakers, speakers and skits covering topics such as academics, communication, trust, and roommate relations were offered.Pan says he has already received a request to put the program on again for other dorms.”Next time I do it, I want to expand it and make it bigger,” he said.
