Several road closings and area construction projects around Ohio State have caused several headaches for drivers on football Saturdays.”It’s a little dicier to get in,” said William Pursch, an OSU alumnus from Dayton. “Our usual route was obstructed so we had to change and drive through campus.”Construction on the Schottenstein Center and the Max M. Fisher College of Business building has eliminated nearly 4,000 parking spots previously used for football.”We’ve never seen it as crowded as it is,” said Wally Stover, an OSU alumnus from Columbus who has been going to Buckeye football games for over 70 years. For those who usually try to park close to the stadium, another alternative is to park on West Campus and ride the shuttle service over to the game, said Sarah Blouch, director of Transportation and Parking Services. Two additional lots have also been made available to ease the parking space hunt. The fields at Ackerman Road and Olentangy River Road will be open, and the surface lot at 12th Avenue and Cannon Drive and the North Medical garage will be available for permit parking.Construction on High Street between 11th Avenue and 14th Avenue has slowed area traffic for those not even heading to the game. Mike Lentz, a senior from North Olmstead, had to park on 11th Avenue to get to the main library.”I should have expected it,” Lentz said. “All the cops had everything blocked off.”Many fans feel the best way to avoid construction problems is to arrive for the game early.Todd and Andrea Sheets, OSU fans from Aurora, Ohio, said the construction was not a problem for them because they arrived early. “We knew there was construction down here and knew the way to avoid it,” Andrea Sheets said.Hart Page, an alumnus from Columbus, said he has always avoided parking problems by arriving early for games. More people are catching on and beginning to show earlier.”I came an hour earlier this year and the parking is still crowded,” Page said. “I’ll have to come an hour earlier next year.”
