If you can manage to overlook Jamie Lee Curtis’ bad looks and bad acting, ‘Fierce Creatures’ is hilarious. The film successfully reunites the cast of ‘A Fish Called Wanda’ in a witty, social commentary about sex, animal conservation and Rupert Murdoch. In an obvious parody of Rupert Murdoch, Kevin Kline deftly plays the role of both the elder McCain and his greedy son, Vince, who wants his father to die so he can inherit the family empire.Curtis, who wears nothing but spandex, cleavage revealing outfits throughout the film, plays a television executive who was hired to run a television station that Rod McCain sold hours after he bought it.She and Kline, who has a crush on her, are chosen to run the zoo, which is under the management of John Cleese. Cleese has decided that to make the zoo profitable he must exhibit only ‘fierce creatures’ that could do severe bodily harm to patrons. The angered zoo keepers tell Cleese that the only way to dispose of the ‘un-fierce creatures’ is to shoot them, thinking he wouldn’t do it. Feeling guilty, Cleese pretends to kill the cute animals and then secretly keeps them in his home. That premise brings the most laughs as Curtis repeatedly finds Cleese in seemingly sexual situations with the animals and several female zoo keepers.Thinking Cleese is an orgy loving nymphomaniac, she falls in love with him. The film is a successful and critical look at corporate ownership, Murdoch and animal conservation. ‘Fierce Creatures’ is an intelligent, pertinent comedy that follows the tradition of ‘Monty Python.’
