Ishkabibble in Yiddish means to have no worries. And this local Columbus band doesn’t have to.Ishkabibble, a wacky “spunk-rock” band is releasing their second album called “Hair Do’s & Don’t’s.” The band will be holding a CD release concert tonight at Little Brother’s.The band describes itself as a high-steppin’, new-wave band that is original by nature.”We’re influenced by everything from jazz, country or punk rock,” said John Zuck, the singer and bass player. However, he added, “there is no Garth Brooks, Green Day or Kenny G. in there.””We just play what we think sounds good and what we like,” Zuck said.Ishkabibble has been known to have special guests such as Darth Vader or Captain America come up on stage with them to dance.”Our shows are always a lot of fun,” said drummer Chad Paetznick. “We’re not trying to be hard-asses.”The band describes its new album as sleek, stealth and containing songs that are more concise.A few of the band’s bizarre-sounding titles on their new album are “Chicken on a Stick,” “Go-Go Goose” and “Pass the Turkey.”The song titles are pretty related to the lyrics, Paetznick said.”We’re not trying to convey deep meanings in songs,” he said. “As you can tell, we like poultry.” The album, which took two months to record, will be distributed through Caroline Records, a national distributor.”We wanted to be heard by more ears, not just Ohioans,” Paetznick said. The band started in November of 1988 when Zuck and guitar player and vocalist Tim Devine met at the Columbus College of Art and Design.”We started as a drunken CCAD party band, high on paint fumes and being surprised that we could play music,” Zuck said. After going through numerous drummers, they met up with Paetznick six years later.”We have got a good thing going here,” Zuck said.Ishkabibble have played numerous concerts from Kansas City to New York City and many places in Columbus. They have played with a variety of well-know bands, including 311.They won the Columbus Music Award for best alternative band in 1995 and were semi-finalists in Musician Magazine for the best unsigned band contest in 1997. So what bands could have been an influence to a band with such a unique sound?”We are influenced by anything that doesn’t make money, said Zuck. “You’ve got to dig for the good stuff.”Ishkabibble has played songs by the Akron band Devo and has been known to cover Willie Nelson, Devine said.Although the band would not say what crazy happenings would be going on at Little Brother’s, Devine jokingly warned concert goers not to wear anything that will melt.”It’s going to be wacky,” Zuck said. “We’re going to do what we do best.”Two additional bands will be opening up for Ishkabibble. The show starts at 10 p.m. at Little Brother’s at 1100 N. High St.
