In front of 353 fans, Ohio State’s women’s volleyball team proved to be inconsiderate hosts as they defeated Purdue easily last night in St John’s arena 15-7,15-12, and 15-6.The Buckeyes, led by senior Vanessa Wouters dominated the first of three games with a career-high match total of six aces and five digs. “I think we played hard,” Wouters said. ” We came out there expecting Purdue to play hard- they had nothing to lose and everything to gain.”In the second game the Boilermakers gave the Buckeyes a run for their money and took an early lead 4-1.After a well placed time-out, the Buckeyes came back to tie the game at 9-9.OSU sophomore, Rosie Snow scored an ace to get the 14th point of the game preceding Purdue’s hitting error that gave the Buckeyes the 15-12 victory. “We got a lot of easy points tonight,” coach Jim Stone said. “We needed those easy points, Purdue played well.”Once again in the third game Purdue took control early with a 6-1 lead but was unable to hold on to it. “We weren’t really sharp tonight especially in blocking and that hurt us,” Stone said. OSU Sophomore, Jen Flynn had an ace to put the Lady Buckeyes ahead 9-6. Soon after, Yoshiko Mitsuta entered the game and followed suit with an ace to put the Buckeyes ahead 13-6.Two blocks by OSU sealed the game 15-6. Wouters had a match high 16 kills followed by Snow adding 13.”It was one of those matches where you’re happy with the win but you know you can do better,” Stone said.The Buckeyes have won nine of their last 10 games and are on a six game home winning streak. They travel to Michigan State to take on the Spartans Friday. The Buckeyes plan to use the win against Purdue as a stepping stone to taking on third place Michigan.”I expect a tough match-Michigan State is an extremely talented team,”Stone said. “It’s always tougher playing them up there, it should prove to be a fun game.”Ohio State is currently tied at third place with Michigan State in the Big Ten conference.
