Spring is here and Larkins Hall is offering seven intramural sports for spring quarter to entice students to come out of winter hibernation.Softball, ice hockey, soccer, golf, world team tennis, racquetball and squash are all offered spring quarter for students looking to get involved in extracurricular sports.The most popular sports are softball, soccer and ice hockey, said Patrick Loucks, graduate assistant for intramural sports at Larkins Hall.”We have to turn people away sometimes for these sports,” he said.Overall, about 6,000 to 8,000 students participate in intramurals each year, Loucks said.Sign-ups for all sports except ice hockey begin March 30 and end April 3.People can sign up in the north lobby of Larkins Hall from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., he said.Students do not have to sign up as a team, he said.”You can sign up by yourself and we will match you up with other people who have signed up by themselves,” Loucks said.Ice hockey registration is 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. beginning March 29 and ending March 31 at the ice rink.At registration, players have to take a skills test to determine what team they will play for, said Christina Myers, student assistant for intramural sports.Soccer and softball both have a $30 fee for the team, and the games are from Sunday through Thursday.Racquetball and ice hockey have a $5 fee, tennis has a $13 fee, and there is no fee for the other sports, Loucks said.Ice hockey games are Monday through Wednesday, golf games are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Players schedule their own game times for racquetball and squash matches, he said.Students can pay with check, credit card or Buck I.D.
