Do not pass Go and do not collect $200.Students now have the opportunity to play the Ohio State campus version of the trademark game Monopoly. The game features OSU landmarks like the Wexner Center and St. John Arena, and famous alumni like Jack Nicklaus and Archie Griffin.”OSU was chosen because it is a large university that is rich in academics and athletics that many people around the nation are aware of,” said Steve Ferris, a developer of specialty editions of Monopoly.Ferris worked with Rick VanBrimmer, assistant director in the OSU Licensing and Trademark office, to select the people and places that would be used in the game.”We wanted to group the different properties together that were related so that they made sense to the players,” said VanBrimmer.”The two biggest icons on this campus were decided to be University Hall and the Ohio Stadium, so they were placed in the spots where Boardwalk and Park Place usually are,” he said. The Community Chest and Chance cards are associated with student life. “For example, instead of being elected chairman of the board, we made it elected president of the student body,” said Ferris. “Another one was, winning first prize in an essay contest instead of a beauty contest.”VanBrimmer mentioned the game that is already on the market, OSUopoly, has off-campus sites as properties. OSUopoly was made by a small company and is not mass distributed. The Student Book Exchange will be one of the stores to carry the game.”We only ordered a small amount because we wanted to see how well it will sell first,” said Denny Mertz, supply manager at SBX.Long’s Bookstore will also carry the board game, at a price of $27.95, said Sarah Doty, a salesperson at Long’s.Doty said she predicts people will buy the OSUopoly version because it is cheaper.”The game went to production about two weeks ago and should be in stores shortly,” said VanBrimmer. “We are very excited about the production and arrival of the game.”
