The carnival-like atmosphere of Hineygate will be in full swing Saturday, about three hours before the kickoff of the Buckeyes’ game against the Wolverines. Now in its thirteenth year as a part of the tradition of an OSU football Saturday, Hineygate, the Holiday Inn’s famous parking lot party, is something that OSU fans look forward to, said Denise Brodke, promotions assistant for Newsradio 610 WTVN. Marty Sims, Holiday Inn’s food and beverage manager said Hineygate provides a festive atmosphere where people can go to before the game to eat brats, drink beer and listen to a loud band.Hineygate really gets the crowd going with its loud music and with Michigan being a big game they should really be hyped, Sims said. The Danger Brothers band will appear and giveaways will take place at Hineygate, Sims said.About 14,000 people from the ages of 21 to 75 are expected to pack into the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, Sims said.Even with the big game atmosphere, they do not foresee any problems with the crowd, Sims said. They have never had any problems in the past.Hineygate has recently been called the best pregame tradition in college football by the Los Angeles Times, Sims said.Along with the Danger Brothers, live broadcasts by WTVN have been a part of Hineygate for over twelve years, Sims said.Chris Fowler, ESPN’s ‘College Game Day’ host said that based on the success of parties like Hineygate, ESPN ranked Ohio State No. 2 in tailgating tradition behind only LSU, with Auburn, Penn State and Tennessee rounding out the top five. ‘Ohio State has an unparalleled party with a band,’ Fowler said. The admission to Hineygate is free.
