In occasion of the event, many features are on loan from nearly 20 lenders. The exhibition is a comprehensive collection of museum and private collection pieces representing more than 15 artists and designers.”This exhibition is an extremely important collection of the best type and graffiti art,” said Aschenbrand, “The exhibition is particularly timely because of the way graphic artists are using type to depict feeling in their work.”This exhibit is particularly interesting to today’s graphic artists because of the technical differences in equipment, Aschenbrand said.Well-known artists featured in the exhibit are Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Elijah Pierce, Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and Robert Indiana. In addition, books by William Blake and Ben Shahn will also be on exhibit along with a variety of historical and typographical works including typesetting equipment, film posters and fabrics. We are trying to show different influences of the letter forms shown in different forms of art and the variety by different artists in different decades, Aschenbrand said.CCAD was founded in 1879 and is a recognized leader in visual arts education with major areas of study in advertising and graphic design, fine arts, illustration, industrial design, interior design, media studies and fashion design. An opening reception for “Write is Might” will be held tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The exhibit runs through April 25 at the Joseph V.
