A student at Ohio State and a juvenile, 17, were arrested on the charges of criminal damaging after a witness observed them setting fire to a bulletin board April 3.The witness, Beth Blair, a student safety employee, followed the juvenile, OSU student Herbert A. Doty, 19, from New Richmond, Ohio, and another student to the bulletin board located on the southwest corner of Derby Hall. Doty and the juvenile were setting the bulletin board on fire with lighters while the other student’s actions could not be observed. At that time, approximately 1:45 a.m., Blair notified University Police.Blair followed the subjects along North Oval Mall to W. 17th and Neil avenues, where they were met by university police. The police ordered the subjects to the side of the police car twice. The first time, the man who was not seen lighting the fires approached the vehicle and the other two suspects remained still. The second time the officer summoned the subjects to the vehicle they complied; Doty dropping a lighter. Another lighter was found on the juvenile.Doty and the juvenile were positively identified as those who set the bulletin board on fire and the other subject was released.Each of the suspects were advised of their rights and both denied the charges.Doty was released pending an issuance of summons. Then the juvenile suspect was released to the custody of Doty, with permission from the juvenile’s 22-year-old sister.

Officer receives head-butt while attempting to arrest student

A student at Ohio State landed himself in Franklin County Jail when he refused to calm down after police broke up a fight in which he was involved April 5.At 7:39 p.m., a patrol officer noticed a large group of people gathering in front of Drinko Hall on 12th Avenue to watch two men fight. The officer radioed for backup then approached the two men. He asked one man to step to the sidewalk and he complied. He then asked the other man, Gregory L. Lufker, 23, from West Islip, NY, to move toward his vehicle, and he also complied. As the officer tried to talk to the man on the sidewalk, Lufker became agitated. He screamed, yelled and started to approach the officer and man on the sidewalk.Lufker was told to remain by his car and to cease his behavior, but he did not stop. By the third warning, the officer decided to place Lufker under arrest. He resisted, tried to squirm away and even head-butted the officer.Backup arrived and Lufker was handcuffed, charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and was then taken to Franklin County Jail.The other man involved in the fight that led to the incident between Lufker and the officer was not charged or arrested.

Two jailed after adding own touch to art exhibit

Two men were caught on tape as they jumped a concrete wall to play in some artwork at the Wexner Center April 4.The urge to add their own touch to the Groundswell art exhibit by drawing pictures in it sent the men to jail. The Wexner Security Department observed the individuals jump into the exhibit on the surveillance camera and notified university police. Wexner security officers went to the exhibit but the suspects had already left. Beth Blair, a student safety employee, noticed two men, who matched the suspects description, walking southbound on College Road near the northwest corner of the Ohio Union.A university police officer apprehended the suspects on the north side of the Ohio Union, and a Wexner security officer positively identified the men as the suspects on the tapes.John J. Richardson III, 21, of 42 W. Oakland Ave., and Bryan W. Moeller, 22, of 1871 N. Fourth St., were arrested on charges of criminal trespass and criminal damaging. They were then sent to Franklin County Jail. Neither of the men attend OSU.
