NBC soap opera stars will help kickoff the week-long “NBC Daydream Tour ’98” this week in Columbus.Stars from daytime programs such as “Days of Our Lives,” “Another World” and “Sunset Beach” will make appearances at Ohio State, the Mall at Tuttle Crossing, City Center Mall, local high schools and local charities beginning Wednesday and continuing through Monday, in an effort to publicize the network’s programming. The official kickoff ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m Friday in the West Ballroom of the Ohio Union. Local television celebrities from NBC-4 will be on hand for all the events.Michael Feeney, senior press manager for NBC Entertainment, said the goal of the event is to thank NBC daytime fans in Columbus for watching the programs, while trying to gain new viewers.”We are looking forward to coming to Columbus, especially to OSU, and working with the college students,” he said.As part of the promotional campaign, NBC will also host a series of free seminars Wednesday and Thursday at Thurber Theatre in the Drake Union. The seminars will cover various topics related to career issues in the theater or television entertainment industries.”The seminars are lectures by actors and actresses sharing experiences on getting into the business and what they do on a day-to-day basis,” Feeney said. The sessions will be conducted in a lecture or discussion format. The seminars represent one way NBC is trying to give back to the community, specifically college students, because watching soap operas is so popular on college campuses, Feeney said.Other community projects include a refurbishment of Faith Mission Women’s Shelter on Saturday and the GLAD Bag-a-thon, a clean-up of Casto Park by NBC talent and local high school students, on Sunday.A select group of OSU theater students will receive auditioning advice and will also have the opportunity to engage in mock screen tests with casting directors. Seminars are scheduled for Thursday and will address topics such as network research and programming, press and promotions and writing for soap operas.Kristian Alfonso, who plays Hope Brady on “Days of Our Lives,” Jeff Phillips, who plays Matt Cory on “Another World,” and Jason George, who plays Michael Bourne on “Sunset Beach” are among more than 25 stars scheduled to participate in the activities of “NBC Daydream Tour ’98.”
