Commuters beware. Beginning Monday, the Ohio Stadium renovation project will eliminate 200 more parking spaces from the stadium’s southeast lot.Construction has already consumed 200 spaces on the northeast side of the stadium. The close, originally scheduled for April 5, was pushed back one week so commuters would have more time to learn of the closure.Once the lots re-open, the stadium will have permanently lost between 400 and 450 parking spaces, but the addition of the Tuttle Park Place garage will make up for some of the lost spots. The new garage will open June 5, providing 950 spaces for hourly parkers and A, B and C garage permit holders. This would seem positive for commuters, but the northwest garage on Ives Drive, which supplies 625 spaces, is scheduled to close for repairs soon after the Tuttle Park garage opens.Transportation and Parking Services has outlined many immediate parking alternatives to consider until both garages open at the beginning of Autumn Quarter 1999. Parking is available at both the north and south riverbank lots on Olentangy River Road.Commuters with A, B or C passes may also park in the Jerome Schottenstein Center lot; however, the 1,900 spaces must be cleared by 5:30 p.m. to allow for evening event parking.Central campus parking passes may also be exchanged for West Campus permits. Sarah Blouch, director of Transportation and Parking Services, said C permit holders who downgrade to WC passes by Sunday will receive a $25 refund. After Sunday, Central campus permits can be downgraded to a WC pass, but no refund will be issued.”We’ll be in pretty good shape for spring,” Blouch said.Unfortunately for commuters, summer will be a different story. The two-year renovation project will wipe out an additional 600 spaces on the west side of the stadium in June. A date for the closing has not yet been established.
