What does Oscar Novak (Matthew Perry) do when his friends, family, boss and girl of his dreams think he’s gay, but he’s really not? He does the only funny thing to do, he plays along.”Three to Tango” starring Perry, Neve Campbell, Dylan McDermott and Oliver Platt, will keep audiences rolling in laughter even though Perry plays the same old character that he’s famous for playing in movies and on “Friends.” A guy who’s silly, boyishly cute, and has that magical connection with his lead lady.”I wait for a good script to come along, one with a part that looks like it would be fun to play,” Perry said in a “Three to Tango” press release. “I was attracted to this film because of the very interesting dynamic of the character. He’s had intimacy issues with women for pretty much his whole life. Now, by having to pretend that he’s gay it’s finally safe for him to get to really know a woman and ultimately to fall in love with her.”As for Neve Campbell, who is new to the comedy scene, the movie adds to her credentials a wider range of what she is capable of doing. A veteran of the dramatic series “Party of Five,” and semi-thrillers “Scream,” “Scream 2” and “Wild Things,” Campbell had the chance to test new waters.Perry, Campbell and McDermott (known best for his role on the television show “The Practice”) make up the love triangle in the movie that snags the audience and doesn’t let them off the hook. In a live satellite interview following a sneak preview of the movie Wednesday night at the Ohio Union, students from across the country had the chance to talk to Perry and director Damon Santostefano about the movie and ask them questions.”I was proud of the dramatic stuff (in “Three to Tango”),” Perry said. “I want to keep doing that.”Perry said he is lucky to be able to act in both movies and on television. “‘Friends’ gives me four months in the summer to make movies. ‘Friends’ is more like a regular job. It is more time consuming,” he said.Santostefano loved the chemistry between Perry and Campbell in “Three to Tango.” “They’re really sweet together, and really funny,” he said. The next movie up for Perry is “The Whole Nine Yards,” with Bruce Willis. “It is not directed anywhere near as good as this one (“Three to Tango”) was,” Perry said, surely pleasing Santostefano as he looked on. “I am really proud of this movie. You just get up there and swing the bat and that’s what we did,” Perry said. “Three to Tango,” opens today at theaters everywhere.
