Some would call Harry Drackett an over-achiever. His achievements include a long list of services to Ohio State and the invention of a common household product.He graduated in 1907 with a degree in chemical engineering and eventually joined his father’s company, the P.W. Drackett and Sons Company, in 1915. His father, Phillip, was the inventor of Drano.In 1933, he proved his worth to his father’s company by inventing Windex, a product that still keeps America’s windows clean. Despite the Depression, Drackett’s company was able to push its product with successful advertising.Drackett was also active in a number of professional organizations and succeeded his father as president of the family’s company.At OSU, following his graduation, Drackett served as board chairman of the development fund. As board chairman, he helped work out plans for financing Baker and Canfield dormitories.Drackett was also chairman of the Alumni Board of Visitors, forerunner to the Alumni Advisory Board. In 1941 he was named by OSU President Howard Bevis to a university policy committee to survey the University’s organization program.Harry R. Drackett died in 1948. In his memory OSU named a 12-story residence hall on North Campus in 1962.
