After capturing two primary victories in Arizona and Michigan, presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will bring his campaign to Ohio State. The Republican candidate will speak at a town-hall meeting on Saturday in St. John Arena at 12:30 p.m.The discussion will last about an hour and will feature a question and answer session with the audience, followed by 15 minutes of media questions. Seating is on a first-come first-serve basis. The event is free to students and to the public. No tickets will be distributed. “We are pleased that McCain’s campaign is coming to Ohio State, given the importance of higher education and graduate education to the country,” said Ron Meyers, president of the Council of Graduate Students.”It is our great hope that all the presidential candidates will visit our campus,” said Greg Lestini, Inter-Professional Council representative. “I think the last few national elections have shown what a great force this generation can be in the political decision-making process.”McCain’s visit comes to Ohio about one and a half weeks before the critical Super Tuesday primaries, in which many key states including New York, California, Texas, Massachusetts and Ohio will ultimately decide the fate of the remaining primary candidates. USG President Josh Mandel said that this and other events would not be possible without the help and support of the administration.”Bill Hall, assistant vice president for student affairs, makes events like this possible,” Mandel said. “We are very fortunate to have such dedicated and student-centered people at Ohio State.”IPC President Eric Ley said that the format for the McCain visit will be more hands-on for students.”After Vice President Gore`s visit most students said they enjoyed the event but they wished the next candidate would have more of a dialogue with the students,” Ley said. “The town-hall meeting format of the visit will definitely be an improvement in that regard.” The event is sponsored by USG, IPC and CGS. Students for McCain is also co-sponsoring this event. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and guests are advised to come as early as possible.
