The grand opening of Java Master Coffee & Juice Bar in the Main Library at Ohio State is giving students the opportunity to buy coffee at a reasonable price in an atmosphere conducive for studying.

Java Master is located on the first floor of the library next to the computer lab and will be open from 7:45 a.m. until 10 p.m. everyday.

The sight of a coffee shop where there were once computers was a bit shocking at first, but as students and faculty piled in, their faces brightened and their mouths dropped at the sight of Java Master’s vast menu, low prices and variety of snacks, pastries and lunch items.

With the grand opening only yesterday, business is already doing well and students seem to be pleased with the addition to the library.

“I was really surprised that there was a coffee shop in the library, but I think it is a great idea,” said Erin Brintzenhoff, a junior in nursing. “I have already come here twice today. There really aren’t very many places to eat on campus and at Java Master you can eat and study which benefits the student.”

Martin Higgins, spokesman for Java Master, is happy to bring affordable coffee in a convenient location to OSU students and faculty.

“Java Master has decreased coffee prices by 20 percent from the prices of coffee at the Java Master in the City Center Mall,” Higgins said. “We want to make the price of coffee accessible to a student’s budget.”

The menu at Java Master is accommodating and affordable to OSU students and faculty. There are hot and cold coffee drinks including specialty coffee beverages and traditional drip coffee. Frozen drinks are offered in several varieties, including coffee, fruit smoothies and milkshakes. All smoothies and milkshakes are made with fresh fruit and fat free frozen yogurt. For 50 cents extra, students can add a nutritional boost of protein, energy, mood or memory supplements.

The food menu is also available from open to close and has a wide variety of options for students. Muffins, bagels with cream cheese, scones, cookies, spinach croissants and hot ham and cheese are all served.

“Drinks will only be permitted in the library area if they are in a library approved container and are strictly prohibited in the computer lab,” Higgins said. “Java Master will sell containers for $2.99 that have been approved by the library, and refills with these containers will be discounted.”

“Java Master will be accepting Buck ID and will soon have cafe tables outside the Main Library,” Higgins said.

“The first day has gone well. It is still early, but business is steady and once people realize Java Master offers more than just coffee, business will pick up,” said store supervisor Rebecca Parsons.
